Co-owner Bess Charles began decorating cakes at home when her children were small. What started as a creative outlet quickly turned into a passion. As family and friends began ordering cakes prepared in her at-home kitchen, Bess quickly learned and grew as a skilled cake decorator. She continued to practice and explore cake decorating, and it wasn’t long before she realized this would turn into a way to make some extra money on the side. “My first cake was a train wreck,” Bess Charles, Co-Owner, says. “But what better way to learn than to fail.” She failed and failed at first, but persistent to get better, she kept pushing further. Soon, customers who weren’t family called, and the orders flooded in. “Before I knew it, I was having people call that were referred by friends of friends and started to get much busier than I ever expected.”
One night, when husband and Co-Owner Jeff came home from his job as a restaurant manager – it was evident that the cakes had overtaken their quiet home. Without much convincing, Bess asked Jeff, “Do you think we can do this?” without hesitation, Jeff answered, “Absolutely, let’s do it.” For months, the couple was jobless, pouring all of their savings into the original 936 SQFT space on Del Prado Blvd – LadyCakes Bakery was born. In 2014, LadyCakes Bakery opened its doors officially and began the journey in a storefront location. The LadyCakes family Bakery in Cape Coral quickly grew into a critical staple in the baking and wedding cake industry in SWFL, providing custom cakes in Cape Coral and all of the SWFL Area. We began and are not living the “American Dream.”
Owners Bess and Jeff Charles remain in the bakery daily to create alongside their skilled team and can’t wait to help you with your next event.
Bess currently sits on the board of several local non-profit organizations, including, Our Mother’s Home and Better Together. Bess additionally owned and dedicates her free time to helping other business owners in their business journey as a Business Coach and Speaker, as owner of Illuminate Consulting Solutions. With over a decade of experience, Bess loves to speak to groups of all sizes about a wide variety of business topics including: “The Truth about Business”, “The Importance of Leadership”, “10 Things I Wish I Knew About Business”, “Discovering Your Why” and many others.
In 2019, Bess wrote her first Children’s Book called “The Adventures of LadyCakes: Kindness is Sweet” which can be purchased on Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com and BarnesandNoble.com. The Adventures of LadyCakes is a seriest that was created with local SWFL Illustrator Robert Ahrens of Cape Coral, FL. As our Office Manager, she keeps the entire bakery running like a well-oiled (but perfectly sweet) machine — schedules, orders, communication, chaos control… you name it, she handles it with a smile.
A proud SWFL native with a medical background, Lindsey brings the perfect mix of precision and personality. She’s a mom of two, a wife to a wonderful husband, and the unofficial queen of “Did you check the calendar?”
Around here, we call her the backbone of our operation — the glue, the organizer, and the one who keeps us laughing even on the busiest days.

Heather joined the LadyCakes family in February 2025, and it didn’t take long for all of us (and our customers!) to fall in love with her incredible talent and infectious personality. She’s sweet, funny, endlessly helpful, and has a magical ability to turn buttercream into pure art — and smiles. 💜
A proud SWFL native, Heather has deep roots in the community and brings that warm, hometown energy into everything she creates. When she’s not piping perfection, she’s living her best life as a devoted cat mom and dreaming of one day raising human kiddos with her long-time boyfriend, Michael.

Chloe officially joined the LadyCakes team in February 2025, but her connection to the bakery goes way back — all the way to childhood cupcake days with Bess and Jeff’s youngest daughter, Katelyne! She quite literally grew up watching cakes and cupcakes come to life, so it feels perfectly full-circle to now have her as part of our team.
As one of our front counter clerks, Chloe brings brightness, kindness, and the warmest welcome to everyone who walks through our doors. She’s a natural people-person with a genuine love for our customers and community.
A proud SWFL native with strong Michigan roots (Go Blue! 💙💛), Chloe is currently a student at FSW and plans to pursue a career in the medical field — proving she’s sweet and smart.
